Beggar's Night

We bundled up the kids and headed out into the cold, drizzly weather for "Beggar's Night" (a strange Ohio tradition where each town or city decides the time and date for their community's trick or treating, usually not on Halloween). I'm pretty sure kids don't feel cold, especially not when candy is on the line, because our little ones lasted much, much longer than I expected. Luckily we brought our most parka-like coats, because we needed them. It reminded me of Canadian Halloweens and the various costumes built around snowsuits and turtle necks.

Here they are, in all their layers, the outermost being a velociraptor and a bee.
Kate instantly figured things out. She can even say "trick or treat" in her tiny little baby voice, which earned her extra candy at several houses.

There is this goose statue trend in Dayton. People put them by their front porch and dress them in seasonal costumes. There are at least half a dozen clothed geese on our street alone. This house has it's own strange take on the goose thing. And no, that is not a Halloween decoration, it's always there. Kate loved it and kept patting the "baby' on the head.
She wanted to eat everything as soon as it was given to her. No waiting for this girl.
 Displaying the candy haul
Finished off the night with a level of Lego Star Wars with Daddy... and the velociraptor head.
Not pictured here are the many other Halloween festivities such as the costume birthday party we went to, Halloween story time at the library, Trunk or Treat, pumpkin carving (aka, mom carves while everyone does something else...), and an awesomely adorable "Fall Festival" party at Owen's preschool. I'd say this holiday has been sufficiently celebrated!

HAHA! I loved every word. What a fun, memorable Halloween for you guys! Such great pictures Lee- just as Halloween should be, with the pumpkin buckets and walking down the sidewalks in costumes. I bet it even smelled just right outside.

P.S. your pumpkin carving description is SPOT ON... haha!
